  1. Ghostscript is now distributed in two different versions, with two
  2. different licenses.  The current version with the GNU License is in
  3. the gnu subdirectory; the current version with the new Aladdin
  4. Ghostscript Free Public License is in the aladdin subdirectory.  The
  5. Aladdin version will typically be about a year more recent than the
  6. GNU version; however, the Aladdin license, unlike the GNU license,
  7. prohibits all commercial distribution (unless you get a commercial
  8. license from Artifex Software Inc., which is currently the only entity
  9. authorized by Aladdin to grant such licenses.)  For more information,
  10. please read the file commprod.doc in the aladdin directory.  For a
  11. copy of the Aladdin license, see the file PUBLIC in aladdin directory.

  13. GSview for MS Windows and GSview for OS/2 are also distributed with a
  14. similar pair of licenses, even though they are not part of Ghostscript
  15. and their copyright is owned by Russell Lang, not Aladdin Enterprises.
  16. The code that allows Ghostscript to function as a DLL under MS Windows
  17. and OS/2 is also owned by Lang.  These two bodies of code are in the
  18. rjl subdirectory.  They are designed to work with Aladdin Ghostscript,
  19. not GNU Ghostscript.

  21. The files in this directory named jpegsrc.v*.tar.gz and jpeg-*.zip are the
  22. Independent JPEG Group library.  They are a copy of the versions available
  23. on many file servers around the net.  Since Ghostscript versions 3.0 and
  24. above use this library, we thought it would be a good idea to keep a copy
  25. near the principal Ghostscript distribution point.  The
  26. ghostscript-*jpeg.tar.gz and gs*jpg.zip files in the aladdin and gnu
  27. subdirectories are links to the files here.
